Galois’s Silence

History and the present, mathematics and memory, reality and identity begin to overlap. Évariste Galois is at once a historical figure, a subject of research and an unsettling presence in a contemporary story.

Galois’s Silence is the complete English edition of my novel Galois Schweigen. The historical Galois passages grew out of extensive research that also led to my Galois biography and to the source collection on galois-group.net.

In the novel, documented history and fiction increasingly enter the same space. Together with the central character, the reader encounters Galois – and someone who seems to be Galois and yet is not.
