About the multilingual-families association

A historical description of the former association and its aims.

Historical archive: organisational details may be obsolete.

The Interessengemeinschaft mehrsprachiger Familien e.V. (ImF) was an association for families whose children were growing up with more than one language.

Its aim was to encourage parents through exchange of experience and practical information, to help families establish contact with others using the same languages, and to support activities such as playgroups.

The association saw multilingual child-rearing as a practical family and social issue rather than an abstract linguistic topic. Its work included information sheets, contacts, a newsletter and support for local networks.
