Fort La Latte and Cap Fréhel are separate destinations, but visually they belong together. From each one there are striking views toward the other, and the coastal path between them follows high cliffs above the sea.
Fort La Latte lies roughly south-west of Cap Fréhel on a narrow rocky headland at the entrance to the Baie de la Fresnaye. The castle’s origins go back to the Middle Ages. Its defensive position is immediately understandable when one approaches across the narrow access route.
The combination of architecture, cliffs, wind and open sea gives the site its particular character. The walk toward Cap Fréhel is at least as important as the monument itself.
