Rothéneuf

Coastal walks, local history and the famous rock sculptures.

Historical travel text: this page adapts an older Klein-Singen.de article.

Rothéneuf lies a few kilometres from the historic centre of Saint-Malo. The surrounding coast offers varied cliff walks toward Pointe de Rothéneuf, Pointe de la Varde and Île Besnard.

The best-known curiosity is the group of rock sculptures traditionally associated with Abbé Fouré. Carved into the coastal rocks, the figures form an unusual open-air ensemble shaped by both artistic intention and continuing erosion.

The area combines walking, sea views and a local cultural history quite different from the monumental character of Saint-Malo.
